Healthy Hawaiian 2012

Aloha! Hauoli Makahiki Hou (Happy New Year)!!! Wishing everyone a very prosperous & healthy New Year!!!

I decided to blog about a journey, I started on October 16, 2011 as I became an Herbalife Independent Distributor / Personal Health & Wellness Coach. I began my journey by taking the Herbalife products for the weight management program on October 21, 2011, I weighed in at 377 lbs., my pant size was 60, & Shirt Size a 5X.

Let me give you some background on why I started this journey... In June of 2010, I was 396 lbs, the heaviest I have ever been in my life, on the path to dying early and I knew it. I was seriously considering gastric bypass surgery, because I couldn't control my hunger, I'm also diabetic. I could eat a huge meal & still be hungry an hour later. I was constantly thinking about what I was going to eat for my next meal. I wanted to be around for my wife & two sons and at that point in my life, I needed to do something really fast or I was a goner.

On December 20th, I weighed in at 339 lbs., my pant size is 50, my shirt size is a 2X and counting down... 😃😊😄

I lost weight during the holidays, which is amazing, because the average American gains about 8-10 lbs during the holiday season. Besides losing the weight, my energy level is through the roof!!! Let me tell you as a diabetic, you're tired most of the time... I can do more & 10X's more active now.

I am currently on the Herbalife Ultimate + 2 canister of shakes a month - weight management program. This is not a diet, it's a nutritional program, I'm not hungry all the time & feel great!!! I don't think about food anymore & in fact I enjoy it more!

Let me tell you, I'm a native Hawaiian and food is part of our life & culture. I'm able to eat what I want, but I don't pig out, because the Herbalife products keep you satisfied.

I share my personal story not to boast of myself, but to help & inspire those who want to be healthy or those of you who know someone that is looking to be healthy.

You know it's Christmas in Hilo, Hawaii... When you see the flocked trees at KTA Super Stores, the only place on the Big Island that offers this service. It's the closest we'll ever get to a "white," Christmas!

It's also that time of season for the annual Keaukaha School's - Evening of song, this year's theme is "A Keaukaha Paniolo Christmas."

Thanksgiving Day Morning was spent at Panaewa Park, after the Turkey went in at 4am in the morning. Wooohooo!!!

The Annual - Turkey Bowl or Flag Football Bash on Thanksgiving Day is a must for Men & Youth of the LDS Faith! The Keaukaha Ward, does it every year. Good Fun & Fellowship!

We visited Hilo's Ranbow Falls, last week friday... It looked more like Niagara falls! Hilo is having an awesome rainy season this year. The sun wasn't shining, so we didn't get to see any rainbows.

We definitely need the rain to keep it green here on the east side of the Big Island. While we're on that subject, people always ask when is a good time to visit the Big Island? Answer: All year round, if you need some sunshine, just take a drive to the West side & you'll see the sun, along with the beautiful beaches of the Kona Coast!

Hawaiian Style Cafe!

When you're on the Big Island and you're in the Kamuela area, you must stop at "Hawaiian Style Cafe." The only place, I know that serves Stew Luau for breakfast... It's like a beef Laulau soup, throw some Hawaiian chili pepper water on top & your good to go!

Five Stars & a Shaka! For my favorite breakfast & lunch place on the Big Island.

I recently visited San Francisco and noticed that people like to beep their car horns, especially when they're frustrated with others. *Laughing to myself.* Every time we heard a Horn beep, we waved to say "hi."

At home in Hawaii, most people beep their car horns to say "hi," or let other drivers go first. It's interesting to see that act of kindness be paid forward, over & over again. It stems from one act of kindness. In which I like to call "sharing the sunshine."

Whenever I walk into a room, my goal is to "bring the sunshine!" Light up that room, so that we all walk away happier, positive, and wanting to share that with others.

How to keep the sunshine? Hang out with positive people, read positive books & articles, collect affirmations & inspirational quotes, watch positive & uplifting movies & TV Shows, and give service to others. Remember, If you don't have the sunshine, you can't share or bring it.
